History

In 2021 The Muskogee Parks and Recreation department, Muskogee Golf Club, and Oklahoma State Games joined forces to start “Muskogee Local Games”.   At the inaugural Local Senior Games we hosted Golf, Bowling, Pickleball, Swimming, Tennis, Corn hole and Horseshoes. These games help promote health and wellness through education, fitness, and sport for adults ages 50 plus.

The National Senior Games started in St Louis, MO in 1985 as the “National Senior Olympics Organization” who later changed their name in 1990 and began working under the name National Senior Games Association. Athletes qualify for the national games by participating in their state games the preceding year. Much as the state games work together with the national games, the local games work together with the state games. The state games are open to out-of-state residents and attract athletes from surrounding states. Hosting a local games in Muskogee will not only motivate our seniors to achieve a greater level of health but also draw in competition from surrounding areas or state wide athletes who are looking for events prior to state games.

These games encourage people to set goals and work harder to stay in shape, lose weight, participate in their favorite sport, and provide them with social opportunities.
